Lossie gunners join US marines in desert push

MORAY RAF personnel have secured an Afghanistan trouble spot alongside US marines in a major military operation.
Gunners from RAF Lossiemouth’s 51 Squadron risked their lives, beside the US Marine Corps, to ensure the safety of the area around Camp Bastion in the war zone’s Helmand province. The Moray team’s commander said the mission – dubbed Operation Cheetah’s Rising – worked to plant “seeds of doubt” in the minds of would-be attackers.
Squadron Leader Kev McMurdo, officer commanding 51 Squadron, RAF Regiment, said: “Working with the US Marine Aircraft Wing has added another dimension to our combat operations.
