Baby charge man goes free

A jury has returned a not proven verdict at the trial of a north man accused of attempting to murder a baby.

Derren MacLennan walked free from the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday and later declined to comment.

The verdict followed a month-long trial in which MacLennan pleaded not guilty to a charge which alleged that on February 23, 2010, he seized the baby by the body and repeatedly shook her and struck her on the head against a solid surface.
