Union demands trains are re-nationalised

A trade union has called for the re-nationalisation of Britain’s railways amid fury yesterday at the latest round of “bonkers” fare rises.

The price of travelling by regulated trains in Scotland is to increase by 4.2% next year – while cross-border fares are to rise by 6.2%.

The rise in Scotland is 1% above inflation, and was confirmed yesterday through the Retail Prices Index (RPI) measure for July, which stood at 3.2%.
