Watchdog to look into high cost of fuel in remote areas

Soaring petrol prices across the UK are to be investigated by a powerful competition watchdog.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) probe will look specifically at the lack of competition among fuel retailers in remote areas.

The body was criticised by MPs earlier this year after concluding that there was “no quick fix” to unfair business practices in rural communities, despite being inundated with complaints from north and north-east residents.
