Collar-and-tie scheme angers Elgin cabbies

ELGIN taxi drivers could be ordered to wear a collar and tie as part of a drive to smarten up the town’s image.

Plans to train cabbies to become ambassadors for the burgh are also being drawn up amid claims that some of them do not project the right image.

The local community council’s spokesman on roads and transport issues said jeans and the smell of cigarettes in cars “do not give off a positive ambience”.

George Littlejohn said the aim was to work with taxi drivers to introduce rules similar to those in force in Inverness and Aberdeen.
