Forestry worker has own bomb scare on north estate
A forestry worker had a lucky escape yesterday after stumbling across a live World War II bomb on a north estate.
Self-employed surveyor Stan Thompson, of Forres, was measuring a recently-planted site on the Cawdor Estate near Inverness when he spotted the badly-corroded mortar bomb shortly before 9am. He alerted the forestry manager, who called the police.
Officers cordoned off the area and an MoD bomb disposal team from Edinburgh blew up the device in a controlled explosion in the early afternoon.
