A promising young footballer was in a critical condition in hospital last night after a crash involving his teammates.

Elgin City under-21 goalkeeper Chris Tucker was travelling with two other players when their black Vauxhall Corsa hit a club colleague’s car. The 21-year-old was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the accident, which happened on the A96 Aberdeen to Forres road, near Alves.

Mr Tucker later underwent a five-hour operation on two broken legs. He is also being treated for a broken pelvis and a severe laceration to the head in intensive care. The Scottish Third Division side’s manager – Ross Jack – was by his bedside yesterday.
