Formartine all set for their day in history
Formartine United are hoping to make history by winning their first trophy in senior football today when they meet Fraserburgh in the Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup final at Victoria Park, Buckie, today.
The Pitmedden club’s skipper, Mark Smith, is desperate to get his hands on the famous old trophy again having been part of the Deveronvale side which won the silverware during the 2006-07 season.
The 29-year-old central defender, who works in his father’s stationery business in Aberdeen, said: “The first cup final I played in was the Aberdeenshire in 2001. I was on the losing side for Vale against Cove that day but I later won it with the club when we beat Inverurie Locos 1-0.
