It’s love on the rocks at stone-skimming finale

Crowds of more than 800 gathered on the tiny Argyll island of Easdale yesterday to mark the biggest ever Stone Skimming World Championships.

The turnout was a welcome surprise for organisers of the Press and Journal-sponsored event, and they had to cap the competitor lists for the first time ever.

A total of 400 competitors took part and ensured that entertainment was provided for six solid hours at the disused slate quarry where the competition is held.
