Claire murder blaze an accident – Webster

A CAR fire that killed the wife of the man convicted of murdering her could have started accidently, an appeal court heard yesterday.

Former nurse Malcolm Webster was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in jail after being convicted of murdering Claire Morris by drugging her, crashing his car and setting it alight when she was inside.

Yesterday, as the first day of the 53-year-old’s appeal against his conviction and sentence got under way in Edinburgh, his legal team argued that the original prosecution team had failed to lead sufficient evidence to prove the Aberdeenshire blaze had not been an accident.
