Officers face trial over girl abduction claims
TWO north police officers are to go on trial accused of abducting teenage girls and forcing them to stand handcuffed in their socks in manure, a court heard yesterday.
Robert Ovenstone, 31, and Stuart Kelman, 29 – both serving constables with Northern Constabulary – deny the allegations against them. Their case called at Tain Sheriff Court yesterday. However, only Ovenstone appeared in the dock.
No explanation was given for why Kelman had not turned up, although Sheriff David Sutherland formally excused the officer’s non-attendance.
