Chips down for fish quotas

Brussels bureaucrats have revealed shock plans to slash haddock quotas in one of the Scottish fleet’s key fishing grounds.

Catch limits for other species would also be reduced dramatically if the savage cuts proposed by the European Commission were backed by member states.

One industry leader warned last night that skippers and their crews would be left in an “impossible position” and another said the plans to curb haddock catches must be the result of “some sort of mistake”.
