Culture city bidders can’t even fill top job

ABERDEEN’S bid to become UK City of Culture was in disarray last night after just four people applied for the campaign’s top post.

None of the candidates to spearhead the city’s effort to win the accolade – which could generate tens of millions of pounds for the local economy – was considered suitably qualified.

Last night, the SNP council group blamed the response on the scrapping of £140million redevelopment plans for Union Terrace Gardens and a lack of “ambition” by the Labour-led administration.
