Icy blast eases in north, but trail of havoc left in its wake

Weather warnings across the Highlands were downgraded to yellow for today following days of icy roads and travel disruption.

But black ice caused problems in most parts of the region yesterday, with numerous drivers skidding off the road or abandoning their journeys.

A truck driver had a lucky escape when his vehicle and another lorry were involved in an incident about 7.30am on the A9 Inverness to Perth road at Drumochter in snowy conditions.
