Horror crash driver was ‘looking for petrol station’

A driver turned his camper van to look for a filling station minutes before a horror crash that claimed the life of a Highland teacher and badly injured his colleague, a court heard yesterday.

There was a near head-on collision between the camper van and a car on the A9 in Caithness.

Salesman Marc Combe, 61, from the Orange area of France, was on holiday with his wife Marthe, 60, and driving from Orkney to Aberdeen when they realised they didn’t have enough fuel to reach the next filling station.
