Council chief’s U-turn over site for travellers

A SENIOR Aberdeen councillor driving controversial plans for a travellers site at Bridge of Don dismissed the location as “unacceptable” four years ago.

Leaked e-mails have revealed that Labour group secretary Willie Young told a constituent the site should be “last on the list” and vowed to lead his party in a fight against the move. However, the local ward member now fully supports a proposal for the same site, at Scotstown Road recycling centre.

Political opponents pounced on Mr Young’s comments last night, with one SNP MSP claiming the public could not trust anything he said.
