£115,000 fire chief on year’s sick leave to retire

THE £115,550-a-year head of Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service is retiring on health grounds after spending nearly a year on sick leave.
The north brigade confirmed last night that Trevor Johnson will step down after two stormy years in charge.
He went on sick leave in February 2012 – less than four weeks before a scathing Accounts Commission report criticised the service and the fire board for poor management.
