Tragic Marty’s attacker makes bid for freedom

A MAN who carried out a brutal attack on an American tourist at a north beauty spot is making a bid to be released early from prison.

The savage and apparently planned assault that Colin Ross launched on Marty Layman-Mendonca on the Great Glen Way near Inverness in July 2006 shocked the Highlands.

The 57-year-old teacher from Vermont was ambushed as she walked alone through woods on the long-distance walk at Blackfold, high above Loch Ness.
