Cuts U-turn could save crucial classroom jobs

SCORES of pupil support assistant jobs could be saved in the north-east if threatened budget cuts are reversed.

Finance bosses at Aberdeenshire Council have recommended that councillors halt more than £6.5million of savings expected to come into effect this spring.

The move comes after officers realised education, housing and social work, infrastructure services and corporate services were coming under increased pressure as part of long-term plans to save £51million.
