New storm alert after breakers batter coast

MORE wild weather is to hit the north today after the region was battered by enormous waves formed by the violent storms.
One mammoth breaker – thought to be the biggest recorded in more than 100 years – crashed on to the tiny island of Fair Isle as the Met Office issued a severe weather warning predicting snow, ice and high winds.
The massive wave, which witnesses said they could see coming for about 30 minutes before it hit, was thought to be about 50ft high and came as a result of the largest sea swells in the world.
