Council claims victory in bitter schools battle

THE Western Isles Council claimed victory last night in its bitter battle with the Scottish Government and parents over the closure of three island schools.
But more legal wrangling is likely over the future of two primaries and one secondary – and staff and pupils could be left in limbo indefinitely.
The controversial decision by councillors to axe the schools – largely on cost grounds – was challenged by SNP ministers and the case ended up at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
