Government funding totalling £500,000 to cover damage by December’s “perfect storm” will be shared by four Highland harbours.

Highland Council will receive £100,000 towards the £835,000 estimated cost of repairs to Balintore harbour — the worst damaged of the local authority harbours — and £50,000 towards the £450,000 bill at Portmahomack.

The package was announced yesterday by Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead.
