Government ‘own goal’ after EU claim backfires

The UK Government has stepped up its attack on the SNP’s independence plans – saying Scotland would have to renegotiate scores of international treaties including its EU status.

The findings are contained in the first in a series of papers produced by the coalition at Westminster on the independence debate.

But the claims appeared to be immediately undermined by one of the UK Government’s own key advisers.
