Hostel evacuated as flames tear through former hotel

Residents of a former Ross-shire hotel now used as a homeless hostel were evacuated in the early hours of yesterday as fire ripped through the building.

People neighbouring the Royal Hotel on the corner of High Street and Hill Street at Dingwall were also evacuated when firefighters discovered the extent of the blaze.

Streets and shops around the property remained closed throughout the day, with shopkeepers unable to enter the premises to discover the extent of any damage.
