Memories of a life before dementia
In a small meeting room at Pittodrie Stadium, lined with framed photographs of great moments in Aberdeen FC history, Ian McNeill is reciting his favourite Rangers line-up.
He will repeat it several times before the afternoon is over. Not to deliberately wind up the Dons fans around the table – although his impish expression suggests that’s a bonus – but because dementia is eating away at his short-term memory.
Now 81, the ex-player, manager and scout, whose career included Ross County, Chelsea, Leeds United and Bolton Wanderers, probably couldn’t say how he got to the stadium that afternoon.
