Grampian leads the way for policing offshore industry
Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill visited Aberdeen yesterday to learn how Grampian officers look after the offshore industry.
He met Grampian superintendent Colin Brown and assistant chief Derek Penman, who is to be in charge of local policing north in Police Scotland – the new national force – with energy industry adviser John McAllister, a Taqa Bratani employee who works with officers in the north-east.
Grampian has 60 energy and protective security unit (EPSU) officers, trained to industry standards and able to go offshore to respond to an incident. The unit was set up in the 70s when the first oil came ashore.
