Spate of accidents as blizzards batter region

The main road between Aberdeen and Inverness was closed yesterday after white-out conditions led to this nine-vehicle pile-up. Two people were taken to hospital after four lorries, two vans and a car careered into each other on the A96 between the Glens of Foudland and Colpy.
And a woman was in a serious condition in hospital after another crash near Huntly.
The driver, who was trapped in her car, had to be cut free by firefighters after the accident on the A97 Banff to Huntly route, near its junction with the A96.
