Avalanche kills two climbers and leaves third critical in hospital

Two people died yesterday after being caught in a massive avalanche in the Cairngorms.

A third climber was critically ill in hospital in Aberdeen last night after being plucked from the snow by rescuers.

The two dead – a man and a woman – were not being named by police as officers interviewed their nine companions, who escaped uninjured, to try to piece together the tragic events.
