Project step closer to bridging gap in funds

A historic and important access bridge at Tain which was closed for safety reasons came a major step nearer reopening yesterday.
The 110-year-old footbridge was shut in September 2011 after Highland Council officials deemed it a risk to public safety.
Its steelwork was suffering from severe corrosion and one of its hanger rods was no longer connected to the deck.
There has been concern locally at the delay in having the B-listed bridge repaired as it is an important route from Tain to the beach.
