Climbers warned as peaks busy in wake of tragedies

MOUNTAIN safety chiefs united for the first time yesterday to issue an alert to climbers following the death toll on the country’s peaks.
With a warning of avalanche risk in place on what could be the busiest of the year, people heading for the hills were told to be well prepared.
Thousands are expected to take advantage of the mid-term school holidays, coupled with a forecast for sunny but cold days. The conditions have been described as “perfect” for ice-climbing.
