Horse is safer to eat, claims scientist

Scotland’s leading microbiology expert claims that people are better off eating horse meat than beef.

Hugh Pennington, Emeritus Professor of Bacteriology at Aberdeen University, said the meat is just as nutritious as cuts that come from cattle or sheep – and a lot safer.

But he said it was no excuse for the “crooks” who have allowed horse meat to enter the food chain and who have crushed consumer confidence.
