Former north-east councillor at heart of Rennard crisis

A woman at the centre of the crisis engulfing the Liberal Democrats is a former Aberdeen councillor and election agent for a north-east MP.

Alison Smith is one of up to 10 people who were allegedly the victims of inappropriate behaviour by the party’s ex-chief executive, Lord Rennard.

She claims she and a friend were at Lord Rennard's house in 2007, when he “very suddenly got up and plonked himself between us and then he started moving his hands down our backs and places where they had absolutely no business being”.
