A CLIMBER has died after falling during an operation to winch him on board a rescue helicopter on Scotland’s highest mountain.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident involving an RAF Lossiemouth-based Sea King as the crew tried to pluck the badly injured man off 4,406ft Ben Nevis.

Northern Constabulary officers have taken statements from mountain rescue team members and it is understood the Ministry of Defence has started an internal inquiry.
