Crofters shoot down sporting rights sale

ISLAND crofters have won back their shooting and fishing rights after the Scottish Government was forced into an embarrassing U-turn.

The move came after Scottish ministers were accused of acting like absentee landlords by stripping locals on Raasay of sporting rights they had held since 1995 and selling them to an Ayrshire company.

The government’s handling of the affair was branded a “shambles” by north Labour MSP Rhoda Grant.
