Fears RAF’s Dambusters to move south

The RAF’s famous Dambusters squadron has been saved from the axe – but could leave Moray.

Fears were raised over the future of 617 Squadron in the north-east after it was claimed its pilots would be the first to fly new strike jets.

There had been concerns that the Dambusters – renowned for heroics during World War II – would be consigned to history when the Ministry of Defence replaces its Tornado aircraft with the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).
