Defence chiefs will announce today that a further 150 specialist troops will move to the Kinloss barracks in Moray.
A unit of Army engineers will be told this morning that they are transferring to the base as part of the latest UK military shake-up.
The Press and Journal has also learned that the airfield at Kinloss barracks is to be kept operational by the RAF. The move means the base could provide back-up to nearby RAF Lossiemouth – and would also give the Ministry of Defence the option of returning Kinloss to its historic role as an airbase in the future.
