Hope for higher troop numbers shot down

DEFENCE chiefs have been forced to admit that the number of troops at the Kinloss barracks will not rise when 155 new personnel arrive – because they are axeing the same number of jobs.

The UK Government had hailed plans to transfer the 65 Field Support Squadron of the Royal Engineers to the Moray base as a major boost to the region and Scotland.

The 155 personnel are due to move to Kinloss this year, joining members of the 39 Engineer Regiment who arrived last summer.
