Flesh-eating bug claims golfer in days

A popular golfer has died of a rare flesh-eating bug – just four days after complaining of a sore leg.

Family man Allan Bowman retired this year and was looking forward to relaxing with his wife in a new home at Aboyne, where the couple were childhood sweethearts.

They filled their calendar for the upcoming months with golfing trips, a hot-air balloon expedition and a concert. But his retirement was cut short on Tuesday last week after he was admitted to hospital with a suspected leg infection.
