Skipper cleared as catch case ‘dead in water’

A TOP north-east skipper who was wrongly accused of breaching strict fishing laws scored a landmark court victory yesterday.

David Stephen, from Peterhead, faced allegations that he had significantly underestimated the size of his haul when entering details into a logbook.

The 60-year-old calculated he had brought home about 780 tonnes of mackerel, when there was more than 900 tonnes in his boat’s hold.
