Council forced to axe secret bypass meeting

REBEL councillors have forced a rethink on plans to hold a secret briefing on the controversial Inverness bypass road.

Members of the local authority’s city area committee had been due to be given a behind-closed-doors progress report on the project today. But it has been scrapped – and the proposals for the west link route connecting the A96 with the A82 will now be discussed in public next month.

Councillors who have called for a review of the “option six” scheme last night hailed the U-turn on the briefing and said they were glad there would be “no more secrecy”.
