Ewe hero – John abseils down cliff to rescue stranded sheep

An animal welfare worker performed a dramatic rescue of two sheep yesterday when he bravely abseiled down a cliff and plucked them to safety.

The heavily-pregnant ewes had wandered on to a ledge on the 100ft cliff at Gallanach, near Oban, and become stuck there.

Senior Scottish SPCA inspector John McAvoy climbed to the top and abseiled 30ft to the ledge to aid the stranded sheep.
