The Scottish Government is pressing ahead with plans to reduce the drink- driving limit, it was announced yesterday.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said 74% of 138 respondents who took part in a consultation were in favour of the limit being lowered from 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood to 50mg.

He said the move would help make Scotland’s roads “safer and save lives” and formal discussions would now take place with the police and the UK Government to activate the limit.
