Scotland’s date with destiny revealed

The waiting finally ended yesterday as Alex Salmond named the day for the referendum on Scottish independence – September 18, 2014.

After nearly two years of sparring, the first minister provided all sides with a date around which to focus their campaigns.

The SNP leader declared it a “historic day when the people will decide Scotland’s future”.
