‘Momentous’ start to dualling groundwork

The first groundwork on the £3billion dualling of the A9 Inverness-Perth road got under way yesterday and was hailed as momentous.

Construction of the much-heralded 80-mile upgrade will not start in the Highlands until 2015 but now there are visible signs of work in Perthshire.

Investigation work started on the Luncarty to Pass of Birnam stretch yesterday, watched by Finance Secretary John Swinney.
