Stephen hot but poor finish
Had Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher been offered a three-under-par 68 when he stood on his first tee at Le Golf National yesterday he would have grabbed it.
But more than four hours later as the Press and Journal columnist walked off the much-feared course – which will stage the Ryder Cup in 2018 – it was with a feeling of deflation.
On a day when tournament director Jean van de Velde had to defend the penal rough, Gallacher set an incredible pace.
