New drive to lower fuel costs for rural motorists
Motorists in Aberdeenshire could soon be offered cut-price fuel under plans revealed today to help hard-pressed families in rural areas.
The region will be included in a major new consultation by the Treasury as UK ministers draw up proposals to extend a 5p-a-litre discount on petrol and diesel.
The initiative was launched on the islands last year and now Chief Treasury Secretary Danny Alexander wants to see it expanded to remote parts of the mainland.
