Minister attacks plans for new A9 speed traps
A SENIOR UK Government minister says plans for average-speed cameras on the A9 are a knee-jerk reaction by the SNP and he wants to see evidence that they will help cut the carnage on the route.
Highland MP Danny Alexander has also criticised First Minister Alex Salmond’s Holyrood administration for not using cash released by the Westminster coalition to complete the dualling of the notorious road between Inverness and Perth.
The chief secretary to the Treasury’s comments were welcomed by campaigners – who said they were delighted that a “political big-hitter” had spoken out against the camera scheme.
