Jobs boost as council backs Nigg expansion
HIGHLAND Council has backed a multimillion-pound expansion of a north port and paved the way for hundreds of jobs to be created.
Inverness-based Global Energy Group has won planning permission to develop new facilities at Nigg Energy Park. The £37million development will be the final element in the regeneration of the yard, which has lain empty for years. The venture will boost the total of workers on site to 2,000 by 2015.
The yard currently employs 1,500 people. Bosses said yesterday they were delighted by the council planners’ decision. But they stressed there were other issues to be resolved before work could start.
