Title defence can be catalyst for Lawrie’s Ryder chances
Paul Lawrie will begin his attempt to become the first man to successfully defend the Johnnie Walker championship today but also hopes another good performance can act as a platform ahead of the Ryder Cup qualification process beginning next week.
The Gleaneagles course will host the biennial competition between Europe and the United States next year and the 1999 Open champion knows a positive showing this week will not go unnoticed by home captain Paul McGinley.
