Fury as cost-cuts vote shuts seven libraries
CAMPAIGNERS in communities across Moray were left furious yesterday as councillors made the shock decision to axe seven libraries.
They had hoped that three of the closure-threatened facilities – at Burghead, Cullen and Dufftown – would be given a reprieve.
But administration councillors voted to stick to their original budget proposal to close the centres, as well as those at Findochty, Hopeman, Portknockie and Rothes, and a mobile library. The move is expected to save £357,000 – but the local authority could now face costly legal challenges.
